Music Lessons

Tony Urbainczyk - violinist

I am a professional violinist, baroque violinist and viola player. I have been teaching the violin and viola from beginners to advanced pupils for over 40 years, mainly in schools, and am now branching out again!

I am offering tuition in Violin, Viola, Theory, Aural Training, Harmony & Counterpoint and Composition at our home in Eardisley, Herefordshire.

My C.V. includes:

B.A.(Hons) in Music from Durham University,

Certificate of Advanced Studies from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama,

where I was awarded the Ernest Warshaw prize for Violin Playing,

Violinist-in-Residence at Oundle School,

Head of Strings and Head of Academic Music at Malvern College,

Head of Strings and Assistant Director of Music at Sherborne Girls.

I have performed concertos by Vivaldi (Four Seasons and D minor Concerto, RV 237),  Bach (A minor and D minor - reconstructed from BWV 1052), Albinoni (A major Concerto), J. Haydn (G major and C major Concertos) and Michael Haydn.

My instrumental tuition embraces a wide range of influences: despite my deeply-grounded traditional background, I explore the earliest teaching styles of Geminiani and Tartini, I am interested in developing techniques for the 21st century, I follow my love of folk music and encourage improvisation through carefully thought-out steps and exercises.

As well as teaching the violin, I am an experienced pianist, accompanist and harpsichordist and I have taught all aspects of GCSE, A level and I.B. music.
